Boys Varsity Soccer vs. Regional Soccer First Round HS

Game Date
May 25, 2011
Score
BULLDOGS: 1
REGIONAL SOCCER FIRST ROUND @ HS: 2

The Stone Bridge Boys soccer team hosted WT Woodson in the first round of the Northern Region tournament and fell to the Cavaliers by a score of 2-1.  Stone Bridge took a lead in the first half on a goal by Tyler Bavis off a corner kick from Ryan Buckley.
WT Woodson tied the game with 13:27 to go in regulation and then add the game winner three minutes later for the win.

With the loss the team ends its season with a 9-2-5 record.  It was a bitter sweet ending to a surprising successful year.  The team had to replace seven starting players from last year's squad which went to the State AAA semi-finals.  The team started off the year trying to find its away and after the win over Woodson in the regular season took off and won 9 games and had 4 ties making it to the Liberty Finals for the fourth time in six years and to the Regional tournament for the 7th straight year.

The seniors were a part of over 60 wins with only 11 losses in four years, along with two Northern Region championships and two AAA State Playoff appearances.  A very impressive stat.  We wish seniors Zach Powers, Maurico Escobar, Tommy Dunne, David Saihati, Luke Schierling, Peter Whelpley, Ryan Buckley and Mwendwa Musau the very best and thank them for their efforts and contribution to the Stone Bridge Bulldog soccer program in continuing the strong tradition of EXCELLENCE both on and off the playing field.

Also, special thanks to seniors Vanessa Paige and Chris Bavis, the team's Senior managers, for all the hours in helping make the games and practices run efficiently and smoothly.
Thanks to the all the students, faculty and administrators for coming out to support the boys this year and over the years.  It is was a great ride and now we move on and look towards next season in hopes of putting together another successful campaign.
