The Stone Bridge boys soccer hosted the Spartans of West Springfield in a non-conference match on Thursday night and came up short with a 2-1 loss. The Spartans took a 1-0 lead into halftime but the Bulldogs were kept off the board by West Springfield keeper Adam Triassi who made several key goal saving saves. The Spartans scored quickly after the half but the Bulldogs pulled one back on a converted penalty kick by Senior Griffin Cypher to cut the lead. The Bulldogs pressed hard for the equalizer but could not break through the defense of the Spartans.
The Bulldogs outshot the Spartans 16-9. Sophomore Ross Mouritzen earned his first start for Stone Bridge making 6 saves on the evening. The team record now stands at 1-8-1 on the year. The team hosts Marshall on Monday.
